Project Expose MSM

We all have been tirelessly screaming about issues related to Congressional leaders abdicating their main responsibility of 'oversight.' We have been outraged for way too long at seeing 'no' accountability whatsoever in many known cases of extreme wrongdoing. I, and many of you, believe that the biggest reason for this was, and still is, the lack of true journalism and media coverage -- which acts as the necessary pressure and catalyst for those spineless politicians on the Hill and in the Executive branch. Or, at least it's supposed to. So, in our book, the MSM has been the main culprit.

Well, here is a chance to turn the tables.

At my new blog,
123 Real Change, I'm happy to present an experimental project, Project Expose MSM, created to provide readers with specific mainstream media blackout and/or misinformation cases based on the documented and credible first-hand experiences of legitimate sources and whistleblowers.123 Real Change is inviting all members of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition (NSWBC), other active (covert or overt) government whistleblowers, and even reporters themselves, to publish their experiences in regard to their own first-hand dealings with the media, where their legit disclosures were either intentionally censored, blacked out or tainted.

Yes, we will be naming names -- myself included.

We will even do so below, in one real-case example, intended to help illustrate how the project will work. In the absence of the real investigative journalism and unbiased independent media we need, this is one way to set the record straight...

Not only that, we also know there are many potential whistleblowers out there who are seeking 'trust-worthy' reporters and/or publications in order to inform the public. At the same time, many of us in the whistleblower community have learned the hard way that there are many reporters and publications who should be avoided. It is our responsibility to offer those whistleblowers guidance, based on our own knowledge and experience, and maybe save them from some of the traps we ourselves fell into.

Project Expose MSM will select and publicize legitimate, credible, and documented/witnessed stories. It will provide a forum for those with first-hand experience to share their stories with the public. It will raise awareness and allow people to discuss these cases openly. And hopefully it will help to foster improvements to the current, sorry state of our MSM by bringing the wrongs to light.

Here is an important point to remember: Things are never purely black or white. I have emphasized, for example, during my own case and other NSWBC activities, that by pointing criticism generally at the FBI, the good agents get unfairly lumped together with those whom the criticism is actually being leveled at. So to avoid that as much as possible we always try to be both specific and fair. Same is true for this project. There are some good solid reporters who work in the MSM and try to do their best, and in some cases they do, and are 'allowed' to do so. Let me give you an example. I have given specific New York Times related examples in several analyses posted in my series on the MSM at 123 Real Change, such as the delay in publishing the NSA Illegal Wiretap story. I was very specific in questioning motives, reasons, or excuses in that particular case.

On the other hand, if I were to give a few examples of who I consider to be solid, trustworthy, professional, and dependable reporters, my fairly short list would certainly include Eric Lichtblau and James Risen, both of whom work for the same New York Times. I hope I make this point clear. This new project will certainly acknowledge and credit positives, whenever possible, along its course. We will also offer the opportunity for anybody whose names are named to reply in response.

I encourage those of you with direct knowledge and experience to join this project by sharing your experiences. Please
E-mail me with your report, and carefully follow the format provided below which includes an example of the first, of hopefully many, real-case stories to come:

1) Your name, title, and/or background:

Name: Mike Levine

Title: Retired Supervisory Special Agent/Covert Operations Specialist, DEA

Background: Michael Levine, one of DEA's most decorated international undercover officers, is a veteran of 25 years of service. As an international undercover operative he witnessed the intentional destruction of undercover investigations targeting major international heroin and cocaine trafficking organizations who also happened to be CIA assets. Among the actions reported was blowing the cover of an undercover operation-Operation Trifecta- that had penetrated the top of a corrupt Mexican government, by Edwin Meese the then US Attorney General. When Michael's attempts at alerting his superiors via in-house memorandums, and then mainstream media, were "buried," and Michael himself placed under investigation, he went directly to the public in his books, the New York Times best-seller Deep Cover and the national best-seller The Big White Lie.

See more at Wikipedia...

2) The Name of Publication and/or Editor and/or Reporter:

Publication: Newsweek

Reporters: Larry Rohter and Steven Strasser

3) Description of Disclosure/Case/Issue and its Importance:

While stationed in Argentina, the CIA's actions in sabotaging the undercover sting operation targeting La Mafia Cruzeña, resulted in the July 17, 1980 coup [Bolivia], wherein, as the State Department described it, for the first time in history, a drug trafficking organization took over a sovereign nation. It would be the beginning of what came to be known as "The Corporation," described by Felix Milian Rodriquez -- Medellin Cartel Money launderer, convicted of laundering $1 billion -- as the most powerful drug smuggling organization on earth, in a secret session before the Kerry Commission.

At the time I was the DEA Country Attaché in Buenos Aires. I sent a registered letter, return receipt requested, to two Newsweek journalists, Larry Rohter and Steven Strasser-who had just written a rather long article that pretty much whitewashed the case and totally obfuscated US government involvement in aiding the traffickers to avoid prosecution and then in overthrowing the Bolivian government that had, in fact, aided DEA in conducting the sting operation that would have, in the opinion of many, crippled the traffickers. I asked them to contact me, at which time I would have given them the inside scoop of what I believe may have been the greatest act of deception and treason against the citizens we had all sworn to protect, perhaps in history, if one considers the aftermath of said revolution.

In any case, I received notification that the letter had been received by Newsweek. Two weeks later I was notified that I was under investigation by Internal Affairs, and that I was being removed from my post in Argentina. I would never hear from the two journalists.

4) The Method of Blackout or Tainted Outcome:

The story was buried-blacked out. Possibly the identity & provided information/documents were disclosed to government employer.

5) A brief personal message to any potential whistleblowers or our readers:

This information was published in my book THE BIG WHITE LIE in great detail and would be libelous as hell, were it not true. [Note from Sibel: As long as you are factual, credible, and speaking the truth, they can't touch you for divulging their 'unreported deeds.']

We will attempt to contact the reporter, editor or publication in question for comment before publishing any revelations like the above, from whistleblowers and other sources, in order to include any response those named may wish to offer along with the publication of your story. In the case above, Rohter and Strasser's responses are below:

Response from Rohter and Strasser:

  • Despite several requests for response, Steven Strasser did not reply.
  • Larry Rohter, who now works at the New York Times replied to our first request for comment -- which included the material above -- as follows:

Dear Ms. Edmonds: From what I see here, you're not actually offering me a chance to respond to a posting you intend to make. Instead, you're asking me to comment on an an old and discredited implied accusation made against me by someone I have never met and who, contrary to what he may claim, has never at any time made the slightest attempt to contact me personally or directly. The conspiracy brigade has been feeding off this carrion for years, and I'm really not at all interested in giving it new life on the internet. But if you are in fact willing to explain what it is that makes this paranoid rant relevant to what you intend to write, it might be possible to continue this exchange in writing. Are you saying that any comments of mine would be included in their entirety as part of your post?

Or is it your intention to use any response selectively? Are you writing for the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition site, or are you writing on a personal site in connection with your individual grievances against the FBI? All of these issues are relevant and will guide me in determining whether or not I want to take this any further. Regards, Larry Rojhter
We responded to all of Mr. Rohter's questions, explaining where we intended to post this article, and that we planned to run any response he may have in full. Though we even followed up a second time, we received no further response in return.
IMPORTANT: Please adhere to the following in any submission:

  • Don't get too wordy and too lengthy in your account and description of the case.
  • Be as specific as you can.
  • Be fair: Make it clear if you are not sure whether the suspect party was the 'reporter' or the 'editor' or your government employer… We don't want to accuse 'unjustly.'
  • If you wish to remain anonymous, you'll need to directly persuade me of the legitimacy of your claim. I will keep all correspondence and your personal information confidential. As a whistleblower myself, and the founder of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition, I understand the necessity for that in variou cases.
With your help, I look forward to helping to restore the important, once-vital Fourth Estate, so necessary to this country's very survival.

* 123 Real Change attempts to authenticate the veracity of claims made by our sources whenever possible. However, all claims made are ultimately the responsibility of the sources making them.

Update 1:

Response by Mike Levine: "A copy of the letter and the original return receipt are still in my possession. They were presented to lawyers during the libel reading of "The Big White Lie," and are available for all who want to see them."

I am looking forward to reading your comments on this project. Hopefully your comments will encourage those with relevant cases to step forward.

Also, please do not post your 'reported' cases, or what you think may constitute a valid case, here in the comment section. I know there are 10000000s of stories out there, but I have provided a specific e-mail address for reporting. Thank you.

Good idea, Sibel. I suggest that you start with L. Patrick Gray's ill-fated disclosure to the New York Times, revealed this week by former Times reporters who allege Gray disclosed White House involvement in the Watergate scandal before Mark Felt passed the story to the Washington Post. The explanation offered: the story just "fell through the cracks," And, then the Associated Press alleged that they failed to follow up a lead, too.

LLewis: Good one. Isn't it ironic: these revelations always come after the sources are long-dead, and the editors/reporters 'in question' are long-gone!!! Let's hope we change that. We want living sources, and current culprits;-)

I have a friend that works for the Ct Dept. of Health and he explained
to me what really happened with the Lyme vaccine.
He said that it was not really taken off of the market becasue of poor
sales, but instead it was because of pressure from a state official
that was directly and financially involved. He said that the vaccine
was know never to be safe because of poor testing. The federal gov was
close to a full scale investigation and they decided to pay a few
individuals 'quiet money' to keep them from running their mouths if an
investigation came about. He specified 3 names to me from Yale
University. At first I thought this Kathleen woman was nuts, but I'm
seeing she may have some valid information. I trust my friend's
information........he has never lied to me in the 30 years we've been
friends.

Sibel, it would be interesting to know how many of Mr. Risen's stories are assigned by his editors at the NYT versus the number of stories assigned to Seymour Hersh by his editors. Why do I get the feeling that Hersh is totally unfettered in his choice of subject matter while Risen is not? It seems to me that when Risen tells the truth it is ultimately from narrowly partisan motives. One does not hold the same reservation about Mr. Hersh's reporting. Please disabuse me of this notion if I am mistaken.

Sibel Edmonds said...

Fainter: That's a valid point/question. I consider Sy Hersh a great journalist also a good friend. Yes he does have that freedom, and except for a very very few independent journalists, such as James Bamford, you don't see that else where...

A thought -

On the sidebar, areas of interest, where whistleblowers might exist.

For example - the Zetas, training at School for the Americas and how Zeta individuals end up in the drug world, the allegation that US weapons vendors are arming the Zetas, etc. How does this tie to what's going on in Columbia, and what's really going on there. What is the poppy trade out of Afghanistan in tonage, where are the labs to make heroin from the raw opium, what are the wholesale channels, etc. What pipeline politics really are and who is disclosing what about it, or trying to.

A sort of current events wish list. Even go back to the rumors about why Noriega was taken down by GHW Bush.

Some things are loosely on the web, but there must be people who know things.

Who killed Harari, and why.

What is the role of water politics and planning in the alleged Israeli-Turk bargaining. What importance really attaches to control of the headwater land for the Indus River and the Tigris and Euphrates. What part of the Kahn situation was disinformation, and details of it. What role does Polonium 210 play in nuclear weapons technology, is it a blackmarket smuggled contraban material, and how does that relate to the one Russian expat death in Britain.

Stuff like that. On the sidebar. Not just stories of volunteers, but advertising things of informed public interest. Like a DoD RFP, it's implicit in the post, but how about an explicit sidebar?

But also, please consider taking action where we can make a difference without media or politicians' support - by supporting a peoples' referendum vote this November 3, 2009 in NYC for a real investigation into the events of September 11, 2001. nycCAN.org is the web site of the group sponsoring it..

Also, I am hoping Sibel Edmonds and others endorse and support this support letter for helping this campaign, posted at:

As long as progressive activists are playing "gatekeeper" on each other, nothing is going to move forward. Progressive activists are easily manipulated to snipe at each other. Chomsky says 9/11 truth activists have "such low credibility" and JFK assassination researchers "taking energy away from serious matters." Daily Kos bans voting rights activists as "conspiracy theories."

When we stop sniping at each other about what are so-called "serious issues" and what aren't, we will all have a lot more energy to get real change done.

Dick Cheney has admitted publically he has ordered torture. A person capable of torturing their fellow human beings is capable of doing anything. ANYTHING.

It time to start gathering evidence and let the scientists use the scientific method to determine what those who have been in power actually did.

whatever said...

Bravo, Sibel!

You are such an inspiration to the millions of us out here for your courage and unflappable determination to 'restart' America. And I agree with your assessment that it is largely the Fourth Estate's failure that we find ourselves in this dire predicament. But for all the commenters who find fault with using the "JFK, MLK or RFK" assassinations or any past history, for that matter, to usurp the credibility of your movement, I say WTF? These events, along with the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, WWI, WWII, Vietnam and hundreds of others, are proof that we have been lied to by the MSM for a hundred years. Uncovering and re-writing the history of them is as important as any more recent event for our children and grandchildren to understand the way that we found ourselves in this situation. The truth needs to be told and a whistleblower from the past is as valid as a whistleblower from the present. Lies are lies and they have changed the course of human events to create an illusion that is coming in to focus for millions of us at this very moment. They ALL need sunshine, regardless.

The sooner that Americans realize that their government is nothing if not "organized crime," the sooner we can begin to undo the wrongs and perpetuate peace and prosperity in our country AND the world.

You are most surely an angel, Sibel, and thank you for your service to all that is.

Truth equals peace.

A related aspect is the kid glove treatment the powerful are given. It was odd to watch (during the Bush years) as government officials were given vast unchecked powers while being held to an absurdly low standard of conduct. Access to the powerful is pointless if the journalist/pundit is unwilling to ask real questions. Sadly the perception one has is that the more access a journalist gets to power, the less inclined they are to ask real questions.

IMO there has been a successful propaganda effort to equate authoritarianism with patriotism. For example, Thomas Tamm is considered out of line for daring to raise concerns about a police state surveillance program. And one of the key officials who supported the surveillance program? Former CIA chief Hayden--a man who was likely involved in pre-9/11 warrantless surveillance programs and (for reasons that have never been explained) failed to use FISA in the lead up to 9/11 as reported by James Bamford.

It would be interesting to know what the named journalists have to say about their conduct. Do they really think that deference to authority is patriotic? Isn't journalism a tough field to be in if the motives of the powerful aren't up for review? Some candor sure would be nice.

Zica said...

This is great! I'd love to see a journalist blacklist and whitelist. Once your name is on the blacklist, you can only get it off by showing you don't deserve to be there or by COMING CLEAN and joining the cause.

I WILL NOT trust anything written by a journalist who's been shown to be a tool for organized crime. I WILL seek out publications by the journalists on the white list and by the whistleblowers.

As the project moves forward, would you consider keeping a running list of the perps with links to the description of each "outing"? That would be something that could be easily referenced and distributed.

Naming names is a REAL action that informs and pressures. Great!!!

I suggest we do something of current and of major importance. Nano-thermite was found in the debris of the 911
WTC site. Nano-thermite is fine milled thermite. It cuts through steel girders. It is only available from the US and allied military. No man in a cave can buy it. Nano-thermite explains why witnesses saw molten steel before they heard the explosions and saw the planes impact. Watch this video for background http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_tf25lx_3o
We are headed to WW III if we do nothing. We need to challenge the MSM blackout.

Frankly, few of us have ever heard of La Corporation - so anything said - we'll believe.

I think skepticism isn't something to be reserved vis-a-vis the government. Whistleblower's don't automatically deserve benefit of the doubt.

The story of drugs and the CIA, is far more complicated than suggested. Since drug-running is pervasive in elite third-world circles - it is virtually impossible to cooperate with these elites, without sacrificing certain foreign policy (and domestic security), ambitions.

But who will deliberate on that fine line? Will all of our undercover work have to come out of the woodwork and get scrutinized?

Sounds like a Luddite revolution - all the machines in the dustbin.

To NeocAnon:

I trust Ms. Edmonds to vet the stories from the whistleblowers. If I need to trust someone to get the truth out in a responsible manner, it's going to be her.

You're all about sacrifice, aren't you? Who's best to be doing the sacrificing, in your book? Seems like it's those that aren't in the elite circles, third-world or otherwise. (Since the elite seem to be the only ones with enough knowledge to run a state, right?)

I don't think the elite have sacrificed any of their ambitions lately. But their time always comes, doesn't it?

We're building machines that REDUCE slavery - sorry Charlie - it's what's IN these days!

Hello Sibel.... the only problem I have with this post is that at present I cannot contribute as a whistleblower.

Still... I can at least try to hum the tune.

Saw an interesting article at TPM regarding the JFK assassination and coverup.

One point it makes is the Obama administration's current penchant to announce one thing and do another... in this case it regards the Freedom of Information Act.

Hi Sibel,

I’m familiar with your case and like a lot of people out there I’m incredibly frustrated with the MSM. Unfortunately the corporately controlled media has its own agenda and that’s the way it is.

If I can make a suggestion it would be for your team to use “video” as much as possible when exposing these cases. An internet news story with video will have greater exposure.

Outside of news junkies, most people don’t take the time or have the inclination to read. New ways of exposing corruption, treason, etc. must be found.

I wish you and your team much success.

All the best,

For the project I am working on, the target is the MSM, but it is a new way to provide news and information to the public (see my blog - main document is days away). What it has led me to believe is that the media blackouts must be well targeted - they have to be nailed down and documented, and the word has to be spread around. This is too central to America's woes, and I would definitely put it ahead of just about anything else right now! What a god-send, Sibel Edmonds! Thanks for all your efforts.

Journalist John Swinton on the independence of the press:

There is no such thing, at this date of the world's history, in America, as an independent press. You know it and I know it.

There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the streets looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinions to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone.

The business of the journalists is to destroy the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of mammon, and to sell his country and his race for his daily bread. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this toasting an independent press?

We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.

I found Mr. Rohter's reference to what he calls "the conspiracy brigade," ironic, since myself and most well-trained federal agents are charter members. You see, what a lot of people who get the job of writing about crime and conspiracy don't realize is that criminal conspiracy is not a theory, it's a crime; and that most people who engage in criminal conspiracies and who do not have the resources to manipulate untrained or ill equipped reporters into describing their accusers as "conspiracy theorists", actually go to jail for it.

@Mr Levine.

On your professional website, you post an article in which you warn readers that 99.9999 of "informants" are rats, squeelers, dishonest, and completely untrustworthy. You mention having worked with 10,000- and find one percent, who driven by ideology, are honest.

Pardon me - but by speaking of informers, aren't you by implication, also refering to "whistleblowers".

ideas, answers?

While I like your book about incompetence, I find it odd - that you have not a single review from the mainstream, and that all your credentials go back to the eighties. No professional reviews, positive or negative?

Nor will I buy the story that a lack of msm reviews is proof that you've found the pot of gold.

@Zica.
The closest I've come to a reasonable take on Mr. Levines work - we had a choice between stoping the communists, and turning a blind eye to drugs. When I say we cannot have it all in our foreign policy, that's what I meant. I don't see where elites come to play into this.

Miguel said...

"we had a choice between stoping the communists, and turning a blind eye to drugs."

That's fine, if the American people are told the truth about what the real drug policy actually is. Let's have government officials just say to our youth, 'The war on drugs, and on organized crime in general, is a sham. We have higher goals we're working toward, like extending U.S. power as far and wide as possible. So please, tell your son or daughter, go ahead and snort and toke away. They'll be helping a U.S. ally and helping to stop the advance of Communism '

Zica said...

TO Anon the Neocon:

I agree with Miguel about being honest, but I have to say it's not ok to create and profit from an illegal drug (and arms) market because we don't agree with the form of government that the people of, say Nicaragua, chose for themselves. Not to mention targeting the drug placement in inner cities to create the addict customer base.

It has to do with elites because elites are the ones who profit from the illegal drug trade and because they are the ones who wanted to "stop communism", mostly in fear of losing their grip on other peoples resources.

You can't assume that everyone in this country was into fighting communism just because we were told it was evil by the elite.

Viva Morales! Viva Chavez! I know you probably don't like it when natural resources are nationalized, but, in some places, that's what the people want and actually get, even while challenged by US-elite supported thuggery.

Remember, less slavery good - more slavery bad. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Meanwhile bringing back the drugs, in this case, for the circle to be complete. Then tell me its for the greater good. Not to talk about it. To fight Communism. to fight terrorism.
Well. It is NOT for the greater good. That is the point we are presently to address. That quid pro quo is a bad pup turned very nasty. and we were not 'sold' it as much as it was forced on us by covert means.Taken from us by manipulant legislation, by secrecy. Over the years. Bit by bit.

Thats why there is a fight on .to protect people like cheney and the 'right' to torture , among others, 12 year old boys in Guantanamo. held 5 years without charge.
Where does our Constitutional Lawyer stand upon a matter of such grave miscarriage? Inherent brutes like cheney have got to be made to run for the honour of walking free . Have got to be exposed before their power base can close ranks about them.

When I got back, I started to realize that "TV news" was just perception management. It is very hard for me to cope. People like my father tell me I would be more informed if I just watched Fox News like he does.
I spend a lot of time on the internet and never comment anywhere, just consume, but felt compelled to say something for what it is worth: you give me hope.

Nemo...Thanks for writing. Action of any kind like that is what gets the ball rolling. Sorry you are having such a tough time coping. I, for one, am mad as hell at those bastards who sent you and your buddies over there in the first place based on lies. At least thats how I see it. Was wondering if you could share with us the feeling you get from your brothers in arms since as you said, TV here is really just perception management. We weren't even allowed to see the caskets of the fallen during the whole war! out of sight, out of mind. Do soldiers feel they were abused/ lied to, or are they feeling like we should be there? If I were a soldier I would be wondering why on earth we are thousands of miles from our own borders....after swearing to defend the constitution. sure doesnt say anything in there about preemptive wars! But as the late, great General Smedley Butler said..'war is a rackt' (great book by the way if you can pick it up)

Anon the Neocon -

@Miguel and Zica:

One shouldn't confuse failure to apply policy, with changing policy.

I am not advocating drugs over communism. It was merely a choice. If you have the DEA burring into a network, which has intelligence value (generally CIA) - departmentally there is room to shut the DEA down. Without a doubt, this can be abused, and has been. Keep in mind, that even when done correctly justification doesn't need to be provided to the DEA. Leaving room for speculation.

It is outlandish to conclude that the American establishment is part of the drug trade.

Rather - individuals, and some groups in the establishment have taken advantage of our weak spots - and they have been cough, in some cases.

That said, there are still moments, when drug use is so easy in certain circles, that you cannot function there without condoning a part. This in no way compromises the sincerely of our anti-drug efforts.

Nothing has makes me angrier than the MSM trashing it's responsibility in the network of American liberty. It was once a pillar of safeguards for America, helping to keep it's freedoms. The press takes prominent place in the Constitution.

The US Press is now traitorous and in no way collectively, informs or is a check or balance. It is a RAG and nothing more at present, simply a willing tool of criminals, aiding and abetting them, betraying American citizens. No wonder newspapers are going bankrupt....cant get news there!

Nothing new about the MSM.

Attended an anti-war (Vietnam, that is) demo in 1970, even taking off from HS, with friend. It was to Wall Street. Mostly peaceful except for a few hard hats, and some cops, but no trouble broke out.

However, if you read the NY Times account of it the following day, they reported that fighting broke out between demonstrators and hard hats and cops were beating up people!

I was going to major in journalism when I graduated HS that spring. But after the way the NYTimes reported the demo just to sensationalize the event, I did not go into journalism! I knew then that the mainstream press was spouting lies.

Sybil I think you can make this work, but I hate to say this most folks still won't believe what is reported here unless it makes the MSM...all else is "conspiracy theory" to the masses.

Keep up the good work.

I do appreciate your work and I have been a media activist since 1992. I organized the first march demanding a Congressional Investigation of 9/11, and the first Citizen's Inquiry into 9/11, and premieres of the first 9/11 documentaries questioning the official story.

Every year we hold an annual 9/11 Film Festival, and I have wanted to show Kill the Messenger and ask you and Daniel Ellsberg to speak, but I have never heard back from the producers of the film or you. (Daniel declined last year.)

If you could help me do the public screening of Kill the Messenger- and/or speak at the event Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland- we would appreciate it! Carol Brouillet, cbrouillet@igc.org, on behalf of the Northen California 9/11 Truth Alliance.

Eureka!

I've got an idea in response to taking up the task of showing discrepancies, between what information is news, and what information is given to us.

I am making a timeline comparison, which is an article or essay that includes two timelines. One I would like to have (and would call as upon matters of public concern), and the other is the timeline created by a major news source.

The latter requires digging into the sources archives and creating a timeline from its various articles, such that one is thorough enough.

I'm doing the NY Times Vs Myself, on the topic of GMOs, for the 3 year period ending now. I hope to finish it today.

There are a few other paragraphs to tie it together, and on this one it just slams the crap out of the major news source. There's really no need to use sources that they wouldn't use.

M.G. Meyers said...

I should add...
The Times makes it easy, because it was one of their topics, and they provide a list of anything keyed on the selected topic, and they sort it most recent first. From there, it's a bunch of copy/paste to put headlines into a NY Times GM Foods articles list for 3 years, and I think it's quite self-evident as not being representative of public concerns.

All I have to do is compare it to what's being going on in India with cottonseed and now eggplant, and that'll do it.

Andy--
Thanks for mentioning project censored. I coauthored an Opinion piece which appeared in the Baltimore Sun. Suprised me, because the piece WAS censored by atleast 200 Daily "news" sources (2009 project-censored story #6, Homegrown prevention terrorism Act, HR 1955, SEE Wikipedia). Congresswomen Jane Harmons fingers are on that story.

Sibel NEEDS to be working with the Project Censored people and staff!

Try Censor story #24 2009 Headline: Japan Questions 9/11 and GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM. Here it a snippit:

Testimony in the Japanese parliament, broadcast live on Japanese television in January 2008, challenged the premise and validity of the Global War on Terror. Parliament member Yukihisa Fujita insisted that an investigation be conducted into the war’s origin: the events of 9/11.

In a parliament Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee session held to debate the ethics of renewing Japan’s “anti-terror law,” which commits Japan to providing logistical support for coalition forces operating in Afghanistan, Fujita opened the session by stating, “I would like to talk about the origin of this war on terrorism, which was the attacks of 9/11, . . . When discussing these anti-terror laws we should ask ourselves, what was 9/11? And what is terrorism?”

Fujita pointed out that, “So far the only thing the government has said is that we think it was caused by al-Qaeda because President Bush told us so. END QUOTE.

Personally, I do not read newspapers because I wish to remain uninformed, instead of being MISINFORMED. Newspapers, since they no longer serve as a credible fourth estate, cannot go bankrupt fast enough to suit me.

Our financial system is similarly going steadily down hill due to the weakening of the McClaren Act and the old precious rules miss used (re-regulation anyone?); bank leveraging asset rules, etc. But that is a topic for another blog.

Two very important pieces in putting together the MSM puzzle:
1. MOCKINGBIRD The Subversion of the Free Press by the CIA by Alex Constantine
2. How the Washington Post Censors the News A Letter to the Washington Post
by Julian C. Holmes

Portions of these must read primers are pasted below. Follow the link for entire works on: http://whatreallyhappened.com/RANCHO/POLITICS/MOCK/mockingbird.html

MOCKINGBIRD The Subversion of the Free Press by the CIA
As terrible as it is to live in a nation where the press in known to be controlled by the government, at least one has the advantage of knowing the bias is present, and to adjust for it. In the United States of America, we are taught from birth that our press is free from such government meddling. This is an insidious lie about the very nature of the news institution in this country. One that allows the government to lie to us while denying the very fact of the lie itself.
The Alex Constantine Article
Tales from the Crypt
The Depraved Spies and Moguls of the CIA's Operation MOCKINGBIRD
by Alex Constantine
Who Controls the Media? Soulless corporations do, of course. Corporations with grinning, double-breasted executives, interlocking directorates, labor squabbles And flying capital - Dow. General Electric. Coca-Cola. Disney. Newspapers should have mastheads that mirror the world: The Westinghouse Evening Scimitar, The Atlantic-Richfield Intelligentser. It is beginning to dawn on a growing number of armchair ombudsmen that the public print reports news from a parallel universe - one that has never heard of politically-motivated assassinations, CIA-Mafia banking thefts, mind control, death squads or even federal agencies with secret budgets fattened by cocaine sales - a place overrun by lone gunmen, where the CIA and Mafia are usually on their best behavior. In this idyllic land, the most serious infraction an official can commit is the employment of a domestic servant with (shudder) no residency status. This unlikely land of enchantment is the creation of MOCKINGBIRD. (follow link for the entire piece)

How the Washington Post Censors the News
A Letter to the Washington Post

Richard Harwood, Ombudsman
The Washington Post
1150 15th Street NW
Washington, DC 20071
Dear Mr. Harwood,

Though the Washington Post does not over-extend itself in the pursuit
of hard news, just let drop the faintest rumor of a government
"conspiracy", and a klaxon horn goes off in the news room. Aroused
from apathy in the daily routine of reporting assignations and various
other political and social sports events, editors and reporters
scramble to the phones. The klaxon screams its warning: the greatest
single threat to herd-journalism, corporate profits, and government
stability -- the dreaded "CONSPIRACY THEORY"!!

It is not known whether anyone has actually been hassled or accosted
by any of these frightful spectres, but their presence is announced to
Post readers with a salvo of warnings to avoid the tricky, sticky webs
spun by the wacko "CONSPIRACY THEORISTS".

Recall how the Post saved us from the truth about Iran-Contra.

Professional conspiracy exorcist Mark Hosenball was hired to ridicule
the idea that Oliver North and his CIA-associated gangsters had
conspired to do wrong (*1). And when, in their syndicated column, Jack

EXCERPT OF A VERY TIMELY POST FROM GEORGE WASHINGTON’S BLOG WHICH TAKES UP THE CASE OF SIBEL EDMONDS IN “4. Censorship by the Government”
The Four Reasons the Mainstream Media Is Worthless
(for the entire post) http://georgewashington2.blogspot.com
There are four reasons that the mainstream media is worthless.

1. Self-Censorship by Journalists, 2. Censorship by Higher-Ups, 3. Drumming Up Support for War AND 4. Censorship by the Government

“…former military analyst and famed Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg said that the government has ordered the media not to cover 9/11:
Ellsberg seemed hardly surprised that today's American mainstream broadcast media has so far failed to take [former FBI translator and 9/11 whistleblower Sibel] Edmonds up on her offer, despite the blockbuster nature of her allegations [which Ellsberg calls "far more explosive than the Pentagon Papers"].
As Edmonds has also alluded, Ellsberg pointed to the New York Times, who "sat on the NSA spying story for over a year" when they "could have put it out before the 2004 election, which might have changed the outcome."
"There will be phone calls going out to the media saying 'don't even think of touching it, you will be prosecuted for violating national security,'" he told us.
* * *
"I am confident that there is conversation inside the Government as to 'How do we deal with Sibel?'" contends Ellsberg. "The first line of defense is to ensure that she doesn't get into the media. I think any outlet that thought of using her materials would go to to the government and they would be told 'don't touch this . . . .'"
Of course, if the stick approach doesn't work, the government can always just pay off reporters to spread disinformation. Indeed, an expert on propaganda testified under oath during trial that the CIA employs THOUSANDS of reporters and OWNS its own media organizations (the expert has an impressive background).

And famed Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein says the CIA has already bought and paid for many successful journalists. See also this New York Times piece, this essay by the Independent, this speech by one of the premier writers on journalism, and this and this roundup.

Indeed, in the final analysis, the main reason today that the media giants will not cover the real stories or question the government's actions or policies in any meaningful way is that we live in a country that is not all that free (see point number 6). Mussolini said that fascism is the blending of the government and corporate interests, and the American government and mainstream media have in fact been blended together to an unprecedented degree…” (for the entire post follow link)

Kurt Sonnenfeld : Exclusive interview
9/11 FEMA videographer at Ground Zero goes public
http://www.voltairenet.org/article160636.html

As official videographer for the U.S. government, Kurt Sonnenfeld was detailed to Ground Zero on September 11, 2001, where he spent one month filming 29 tapes: "What I saw at certain moments and in certain places ... is very disturbing!" He never handed them over to the authorities and has been persecuted ever since. Kurt Sonnenfeld lives in exile in Argentina, where he wrote « El Perseguido » (the persecuted). His recently-published book tells the story of his unending nightmare and drives another nail into the coffin of the government’s account of the 9/11 events. Below is an exclusive interview by Voltairenet.

Joe Davidson in Today’s Washington Post notes the passing of the Whistleblower Protection Act

Requiem for the Whistleblower Protection Act: Break out the black bunting. Tune up a mournful dirge. May the Whistleblower Protection Act rest in peace. That's the attitude of whistleblowers and their advocates, who accuse the Merit Systems Protection Board of striking a lethal blow last week to retaliation safeguards for federal employees who expose waste, fraud and abuse. "Until Congress acts, the Whistleblower Protection Act is dead," said Tom Devine, legal director of the Government Accountability Project. "The MacLean decision means government agencies can fire employees for any disclosure otherwise protected by the WPA. The decision reduces the WPA to a voluntary guideline that agencies can cancel at will by issuing blanket gag regulations."
But Devine and other advocates, including those in Congress, aren't willing to let the law pass away peacefully. Rather than grieving, they are using the decision as evidence in their long battle to pass stronger whistleblower protections. The ruling involved Robert MacLean, an air marshal who was fired three years ago after he exposed plans to no longer place air marshals on long-distance flights so the Transportation Security Administration would not have to pay their overnight expenses…” (Complete article:) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/29/AR2009062904118.html?hpid=news-col-blog

Please cut and FWD the below and send to: OIG.HOTLINE@USDOJ.GOV

Thank you!!!

I request that the U.S. Office of the Inspector General and FBI Oversight Commitees investigate this matter. I have reported many crimes to the Attorney Generals of DE, N.J. & Pennsylvania. N.J. State Senator Beach advised me on April 13, 2008 that arrests were going to be made and my matter was to be prosecuted by the N.J. U.S. Attorneys Office. The local F.B.I. fails to self police itself and make arrests. The local U.S. Attorneys Offices fail to return my calls and prosecute N.J. AG Case #200706634. I have now filed a complaint against Ralph Marra with the N.J. Inspector General's Office. Confirmation # is 20090625-377 for my complaints. Justice. Rogue F.B.I. have also prevented me from retrieving my own 1999 & 2000 1040 Tax records since 2006. I am the victim of Attempted Murder of which the F.B.I. seek s to Cover Up, a victim of police intimidation and other major crimes. I allege that F.B.I. agents attempted to kill me in the summer of 2007. I initially thought I was a victim of malpractice committed by a 5'7 asian man thought to be a Voorhees, N.J. Virtua employee as I reported to Camden County , N.J. prosecutor Josh Ottenberg in the fall of 2007. Voorhees police failed to investigate and I definately believe otherwise now. Camden County, N.J. law enforcement did not investigate any of my claims? A man aprox. 5'7 of asian descent at Virtua Hospital continued to remove a significant amount of blood from me during my overnight stay there leaving me extremely weakened. It took numerous injections of B-12 and steroid shots administered by Berlin, N.J. physician Julian Maressa to regain most of my strength. I have provided local law enforcement with overwhelming evidence and proof of the injections I received. Since 2007 I ‘ve been trying to file many charges and was prevented from even filing a "Protective Restraint Order" against my former neighbor and former Eastern High School classmate Special Agent William "Bil"l Dicola of the F.B.I. who is criminally involved in the cover up. The local F.B.I. has ordered local law enforcement and other offices not to assist me? Intitially this tragedy of injustice started as a civil court matter regarding my divorce (N.J. Divorce Docket #FM-03-826-05W). However this criminal matter has become a personal nightmare.

I have been unlawfully prevented from reopening my divorce and having a motion filed in Burlington County Superior Court to Subpoena the last 10 Yrs. of Trust Fund Tax Returns and 1999, 2000 Full Federal Tax Returns. My Former spouse Marni Mills of 1323 Crofton Court Mt. Laurel , NJ removed those Tax records from my former marital residence of 5 Sherman Lane Sicklerville , NJ 08081 . My former spouse hid Assets and a Trust – The “Marni-Weiss Trust” from me during my divorce proceedings worth millions. Her CPA Murray J. Fox of 1200 Bustleton Pike, Suite 3 Feasterville, PA also would not supply me with a copy of these records. I allege my former father in-law Stacy Weiss of 713 Bentley Court Moorestown, N.J. used his undue influence to pay off court officials and members of local law enforcement. The F.B.I. is trying to cover up this matter to protect many including members of the FBI. I attempted to file collusion charges in Winslow, N.J. against my divorce attorney James Vogdes Esq. who was also a municipal court judge in Camden and Burlington County NJ . Delaware U.S. Senator Tom Carper in December 2008 was trying to assist me and forwarded materials to a government oversight commitee.

Kevin Ryan has done brilliant work on the WTC collapse. This goes way beyond a smoking gun. Here is but a piece.
Demolition access to the World Trade Center towers: Part one – tenants by Kevin R. Ryan http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0907/S00124.htm
“…The North Tower Impact Zone On 9/11, American Airlines Flight 11 hit the north face of the north tower (WTC 1) between floors 94 and 99. In a stunning coincidence, these floors bracket those that had been upgraded for fireproofing shortly before 9/11.[12] This coincidence was amplified by the fact that one tenant occupied all of those floors – Marsh & McLennan (Marsh), which at the time was the world’s largest insurance brokerage company. One other tenant, Sumitomo Bank, shared part of floor 96 with Marsh.
During the years from 1993 to 2001, Marsh made several modifications to these floors, in addition to the fireproofing upgrades mentioned above. According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Marsh made modifications to the south side of floor 94 in 1998. That same year, the PANYNJ helped Marsh demolish floors 95-98 in order to rebuild the fire alarm and sprinkler systems. Marsh did further modification work on floor 95 in the year 2000.[13] The full floor fireproofing upgrades on floors 93 through 100 were accomplished in August through November of 1998, except for floor 94, which was done in December 1996.
Marsh was a large company, with a number of subsidiaries, including Putnam Investments, Mercer, Johnson & Higgins, and Guy Carpenter, a company that occupied floors 47 to 54 of the south tower. Marsh was also known to be notoriously secretive, and had been likened to the CIA.[14] Its chief executive on 9/11 was Jeffrey Greenberg, a member of the Brookings Institution, the Trilateral Commission, and the son of the chairman of American International Group (AIG), Maurice Greenberg. AIG has been reported to be at the center of a number of CIA operations.[15]
Jeffrey Greenberg rose quickly through management at Marsh, having come there directly from AIG in 1995, and then becoming CEO just four years later. At Brookings, Greenberg hobnobbed with Lee Hamilton, co-chair of the 9/11 Commission, and the Iraqi Nemir Amin Kirdar, CEO of Investcorp, a BCCI-related company founded by the Saudi Abdullah Taha Bakhsh.[16]
BCCI was founded by a Pakistani named Agha Hasan Abedi, and was ”made up of multiplying layers of entities, related to one another through an impenetrable series of holding companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, banks-within-banks, insider dealings and nominee relationships.” In the early nineties, BCCI was extensively investigated for money laundering and terrorist financing, and was ultimately shut-down by the Bank of England in 1992.[17] Like BCCI, AIG developed the same fragmented and difficult to trace network of subsidiaries, spread across 130 countries and 400 regulators.[18]
Other very powerful and well-connected people worked in senior management at Marsh. These included Stephen Friedman, a senior principal at Marsh Capital and former partner at Goldman Sachs, who later became George W. Bush’s top economic advisor. Friedman was also a member of the Brookings Institution, the Bilderberg group, the Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, and the board at In-Q-Tel, the investment firm founded by the CIA in 1998. In-Q-Tel invests in state of the art technologies related to defense and intelligence work, including nano and chemical technologies, according to its website.[19]
In another interesting coincidence, Friedman belonged, through Cornell University, to a secret society called Quill and Dagger, the membership of which includes Paul Wolfowitz, Sandy Berger and Stephen Hadley. Wolfowitz, the neo-con deputy secretary of defense in the Bush Administration, was the author in 1992 of the “Wolfowitz Doctrine” of pre-emptive warfare…and met with Pakistani ISI General Mahmud Ahmed in the week before 9/11…”
